How do I read the ingredient listing correctly?
You're not the only one confused by the list of ingredients in makeup.
Legally companies selling makeup need to disclose all ingredients in order of concentration.
As a general rule of thumb, the first 5 or so ingredients probably make up the majority of the formula. For example, our Sparkle Lipstick is heavily Apricot Kernel Oil in its formulation with Castor Oil coming in close second and then our lip safe fragrance being the lowest percentage in the formula. Reading it with this in mind, you can see that the nourishing properties of Apricot and Castor Oil are the dominant priority in our lipstick.
Some countries have incredibly lax regulations regarding ingredients and listing but in some instances, if an ingredient is less than 1% it doesn't need to even be on the listing! This opens the door to fillers that can be incredibly unsafe and toxic like asbestos etc. even in children's play makeup!
Australia, however, has one of the strictest regulations in the world and Oh Flossy abides by this in all our production and ingredient listings.
