Glitter and Water Bead fun: 5 SUPER-EASY ideas to keep the kids entertained these school holidays

Posted by Brad Clifton on

We want holiday time to be fun for the whole family, but we also know that it can be tricky coming up with fresh ideas to keep your little holidaymakers entertained on your ‘at home days’ (six weeks can be a reeeallllly long time… am I right?).

The thing we love about Oh Flossy products is that the sky is the limit in terms of how you and your little ones play with them, but we have compiled a few ideas to get you started.

We'll share some more holiday activities you can try over the next few weeks to see you through until school goes back...so stay tuned!

Fun with water beads

Our Rapid Water Beads are so versatile. They are fabulous for sensory exploration, and you can have silly fun together. Why not try:

Freezing them

Make up your water beads as per packet instructions and scoop some into a cup or ice cube trays and leave to freeze. This is a great sensory activity for the kids who can paint the ice blocks with water or swish them around in a tub of water to melt the ice block and free the frozen beads or they can chip away at it with play hammers (make sure you protect their little eyes).

Mixing them with shaving cream

An oldie but a goodie. For some good old fashioned messy fun, fill a tub with shaving cream and throw in some water beads. Let the kids dig in with their hands to feel the textures and throw some cups and utensils in the mix for hours of fun. It can be a really great way to help calm and relax the kids.

Throwing them on the trampoline

This is simple and joyous. Make up your water beads and just throw them on the trampoline – let the silliness ensue.

Glittery fun

Create personalised schoolbook covers

Why not get ready for back-to-school and let the kids create their very own personalised book covers for when they return to class.

You’ll need:

Spread the stencils out over your paper as desired, glue over the top and then use your face paint to create a colourful paste. Pull off, add some glitter and watch your design come to life.

Make some glitter playdough

Playdough is always a hit at our house and adding some glitter to it for the holidays makes it that extra bit special.

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup cooking salt
  • 2-3 tbsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • A few drops of food colouring of your little one’s choice
  • Oh Flossy Biodegradable Glitter

 How to do it:

  • Boil water
  • Mix all dry ingredients (including glitter)
  • Pour boiled water in a separate bowl and add some food colouring,
  • Add water to the dry ingredients a little at a time and combine until desired consistency is achieved and leave to cool
  • Knead mixture until smooth
